Sad Gits
For a few weeks in August 2002 listeners to Medway Mercury FM were totally stumped by the Lost for Words feature on the station’s Ian and Saffron Breakfast Show.
Folk were trying to figure out the answer to a question from an interview that took place in February at the Frog & Toad.
A Sad Gits Night was held and John Brice, the landlord, recorded an interview about the night and how different it might be.
John said “The night was for single people to come and have a good time on Valentine’s night. We held competitions for best anti-male and anti-female jokes, and served garlic bread so that if the single people in the bar were going back to a partner they would have rather unsavory breath.”
The interview was playing on the radio show every morning for some weeks and, no-one could guess the missing word. The radio station received about 30 calls a day, and the eventual winner received various Pepsi chart CDs, seven free pints and a barbecue at The Frog & Toad
For those of you who have a fast connection you can download the interview in MP3 format .
